The United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) has launched a new generation of United Nations stamps called UN Crypto Stamps, which are connected to the Ethereum blockchain[1]. The stamps are designed by Sergio Baradat of UNPA and support the Secretary-General’s strategy on new technologies. They were developed in conjunction with the United Nations Office of Information and Communications. The stamps are pegged to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and there are 51 variations of the UN Crypto Stamps, as each sheet features one of the 17 SDGs[2]. The total print quantity is 90,000 stamps or 30,000 per each denomination. Each stamp sheet includes a unique secret code hidden behind a scratch-off area which enables its owner to claim the digital version of the stamp on the Ethereum blockchain[4]. The creation, ownership, exchange, and trading of the digital stamps is managed through a smart contract deployed on the Ethereum[2]. UN Crypto Stamps are sold exclusively by the UNPA and can be purchased at unstamps.org or the United Nations stamp shops in New York, Geneva, and Vienna[2].
